Arturo Rodriguez

Opera singer, producer, stage director, vocal teacher, columnist and Mexican speaker.

Winner of the Presea al Mérito Magisterial en Educación Superior by the Mayor of Saltillo Jericó A. Massó. He received two medals from the UNAM in recognition of his 10 and 15 years of teaching and artistic work. He was a scholar of the Programa de Estímulo a la Creación y Desarrollo Artístico of the Secretary of Culture of Coahuila. Honored in 2017 by the public universities and the Governments of the States of Coahuila, Durango, Tamaulipas and San Luis Potosí for their 20 years of artistic and teaching work.

Graduated from the Bachelor of Singing and the Master’s Degree in Musical Interpretation with Honorific Mention from the Faculty of Music of the UNAM. His training includes diplomas, courses and workshops with professors from the United States, France, Italy, England, Cuba, Spain and Mexico.

Since his debut with the National Opera Company at the Bellas Artes Palace he has participated as soloist, director and/or producer in more than 45 works, with 35 orchestra directors, 23 orchestras and 22 stage directors in the most important international theaters, festivals and events in the country in more than 1,500 opera, musical, zarzuela, concerts and recital performances. He has been soloist singer in 12 productions with the National Opera Company at the Bellas Artes Palace in Mexico City.

The repertoire of complete works in which he has participated as a solo singer, producer and/or stage director include: Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, Le nozze di Figaro, La Bohème, Sour Angelica, Manon, Hänsel und Gretel, La serva padrona, Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Don Giovanni, Die Zauberflöte, Carmen, Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Così fan tutte, Les contes d’Hoffmann, Bastien und Bastienne, Turandot, The rappresentazione di anima di corpo, Komödie auf Der Brüke, Boris Godunov, Amahl and The Night Visitors, Dido and Aeneas, Un ballo in maschera, Candide, L’enfant et les sortiléges, Il prigionero, Luisa Fernanda, Master Pedro’s altarpiece, Marina, Don Gil de Alcalá, Lavapiés barber, Carmina Burana, Requiem (Verdi- Mozart-Fauré) and vocal symphonic works by Dvorák, Gounod and Bach. He participated for four years as a singer and actor in more than 1,100 performances in the musicals Beauty and the Beast, The Phantom of the Opera and Jesus Christ Superstar with the company “OCESA Presenta” at the Orfeón and Telmex theaters.

He is founder and general director of the Compañía Ópera de México y Ópera de Coahuila. With which he has taken complete productions to fourteen states of the republic. He has directed and produced the operas: Madame Butterfly, La Bohème, Sour Angelica, La serva padrona, Don Giovanni, Die Zauberflöte, Don Pasquale, L’elisir d’amore, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Amahl and The Night Visitors, Le nozze di Figaro, Die Fledermaus. Dido and Aeneas and the zarzuela Luisa Fernanda.

He is currently artistic and academic director of the Taller de Ópera UAdeC, actively collaborates in projects commissioned by the General Coordination of Dissemination of Cultural Heritage, full-time professor with Prodep profile, President of the singing area, Member of the Academic Body and Coordinator of the Curricular reform in the Escuela Superior de Música.

His commitments for 2018 include the production and direction of the operas: Carmen, Cosi fan tutte, Pagliacci, Suor Angelica, Don Giovanni and Amahl and the night visitors for Coahuila, Durango, San Luis Potosí and the State of Mexico.
